  • Getting Started with BAB

In this course, you will learn: -A brief overview about BAB -Vending Portal, Sessions, and Scheduling Time -BAB Hands -Safety -Inside BAB -Using TSIM with BAB -BAB & the user interface -Cleaning

  • Understanding the Coordinate System

The BioAssemblyBot uses a coordinate based system, such that: -Zero on the X-axis is approximately at the center point of the print stage, from left to right, when facing the front of the BAB. -Zero on the Y-axis is approximately at the center point of the print stage, from front to back, when facing the front of the BAB. -Points to the left of center (or nearer to the left side of BAB) are negative. -Points below center (or nearer to the front of BAB) are negative. -Points to the right of center (or nearer to the right side of BAB) are positive. -Points above center (or nearer to the back of BAB) are positive. -Zero on the Z-axis is approximately at the surface of the print stage, as defined by the tip-to-stage offset calibration. -Points above the surface are positive along the Z-axis.

  • Scanning

Before we begin the demonstration, here are a few key terms: ROI - Region of Interest being scanned. Left - the left side, when facing the front of BAB, of the ROI. Front - the front side, nearest to the front of BAB, of the ROI Width - the width, from left to right when facing the front of BAB, of the ROI Depth - the depth from front to back when facing the front of BAB, of the ROI Height - the height of the 3D Laser Scan BAB Hand when scanning. The center of the Hand's range is approximately 85mm from the bottom of the Hand. The working range of the Hand is +/- 20mm from the center point. A height of zero is approximately the shortest possible height relative to the ROI floor within the working range of the Hand. Resolution - the distance between each sampled height, in millimeters. Floor - empty print stage. -Scan data is relative to a "floor," typically the empty printing stage. To set this "floor," us the "scan empty stage" button. The area scanned must be flat and level. - After scanning the empty stage establish the "floor," place an object within the scanned empty stage area. -Set the ROI, keeping in mind that the working range of the 3D Laser Scan BAB Hand is +/- 20 mm, with the center point being approximately 85mm to the bottom of the Hand. -Typically, a resolution of 0.5mm or 0.25mm is needed to acquire a usable surface for direct printing. A scanning time of several hours is not unusual. -After scanning, import the scan data by pressing the button on the BioAssembly tab in TSIM.

  • UV Calibration

Please contact support if a UV calibration of the 3D Syringe | UV (1st Generation) BAB Hand is needed. UV calibration is required after 95 hours of UV curing use. To calibrate, place the Hand in its calibration position (with the UV wand facing down), remove the tip shield, go the calibration, light heads screen and press "Start" next to calibrate light head.
