Organoid Intelligence Raises The Bar For Consistency
Organoid intelligence (also called organoid computing or wetware computing) uses lab-grown brain organoids as living computing systems. The field is growing fast. In 2024 the National Science Foundation funded seven teams with $14 million to advance organoid-based biocomputing (NSF). Comparing computing performance across organoids only works when the organoids themselves are comparable.

The Challenges:
Batch-to-batch variability
Manual seeding and feeding make every batch a little different.
Long culture timelines
Weeks of media changes are tedious and a contamination risk.
Nutrient delivery
Larger organoids need perfusion to stay healthy at the core.
Precise device interfacing
Organoids must land exactly where your recording hardware needs them.
How ASLS Helps
Our platform automates the core operations used to build and culture organoids. It’s organoid-type agnostic — the same workflows that run liver, intestinal and tumor organoid culture apply to cerebral and neural organoids, spheroids and assembloids.
FAQs
What is organoid intelligence? Organoid intelligence (OI) is an emerging field that uses 3D brain organoids, grown from stem cells, as biological computing systems, typically read and stimulated through electrode arrays.
Can BAB place organoids onto multi-electrode arrays? BAB places organoids into microfluidic devices with similar space constraints. We'll work with you to set up placement for your specific array or interface.
Can Organoid360 run cerebral organoid protocols? Yes. Organoid360 automates the core operations used across organoid protocols, and the BioAssemblyBot is capable of the operations cerebral organoid protocols require. Our team will help you configure your protocol.
Do you supply hydrogels or bioinks? No — the platform is open, so you can use the materials your neural work requires. We've automated hydrogel-based workflows successfully in other organoid applications.
How long can automated culture run? We've run automated organoid operations over days and weeks. Automated incubation, scheduled feeding and optional perfusion are built for extended culture.
Can you help with vascularization? Yes. We've built perfusable channels in tissue constructs that stay open, and PerFuseIt and Angiomics microvessels support perfusion and microvasculature.
