On November 17, 2000, our President & CEO, Michael W. Golway, P.E., wrote a guiding directive in his journal:

“Use my entrepreneurial opportunity to do something profound and positive.”

At the time, he didn’t know exactly what that would look like. But he believed that if he could build a company filled with smart and passionate subject matter experts, together they could achieve it.

The Guiding Gifts

Along the way, Michael has reflected on three driving concepts - gifts, not entitlements - that have fueled his pursuit of the profound and positive:

  1. Life is too short. Even if we live to our life expectancy, time is limited. This reality compels him to take action every day.

  2. We live in the greatest time in human history. With access to modern food, medicine, infrastructure, and safety, we have opportunities unmatched by any other era. Michael often says, “Give me today over 500 years ago.”

  3. We live in one of the greatest places in the world. While many face difficult circumstances, he views his opportunity to build in a place of abundance as a gift that should be put to meaningful use.

These perspectives have continually inspired Michael to ask himself: “What will I do with this gift?” His answer has remained consistent — strive for what is profound and positive.

Checking the Box on Profound and Positive

Over the past 25 years, Michael’s journey has been marked by milestones that embody this pursuit:

  • Technology innovations that have helped companies remain competitive and deliver better service to their customers.

  • Resilience during COVID, when Advanced Solutions’ technology enabled businesses to provide seamless home delivery and curbside pickup.

  • Economic impact, supporting customers’ long-term viability and helping sustain employment for their teams and families.

  • Scientific breakthroughs, advancing research through the BioAssemblyBot® (BAB), a robotic platform transforming how tissues, cells, and biomaterials are assembled.

Building the Enterprise

Michael’s first company acquisition was IDS Engineering, now Slot3D, LLC, which remains part of the portfolio today. On November 1, 2004, he acquired Advanced Solutions, Inc., which has since become the parent company of multiple technology subsidiaries.

Across 25 years, he has completed 10 acquisitions, launched 6 startups, and sold 1 company, all guided by the belief that entrepreneurship is about more than business — it is about creating opportunity, innovation, and impact.

The Road Ahead

As significant as the past 25 years have been, Michael believes the most profound opportunities lie ahead.

We are on the cusp of teaching robots to build human tissue replacements for diseased or damaged organs — shifting from symptomatic treatments to curative medical solutions. The vision that began in a journal two and a half decades ago continues to drive us forward: delivering innovations that are truly profound and positive for humanity.
